Memorial Day 2013

Today there was a hike, bike, and paddle theme downtown. Recently they opened a pedestrian bridge that crosses the Ohio River I'd been eager to visit. We went on a picturesque day and honestly it was fan-freakin-tastic. Its good to feel that way in your 'hometown'. So Jake and I parked under the wharf and walked to the bridge with a few stops along the way. All in all we walked 7 miles (14 for J) and we had an enjoyable day together :)

I turn 31

Well since my birthday is synonymous to Mother's Day, and Kevin is in the anti-holiday industry, I decided to head up north to see my folks. I hadn't been there since Thanksgiving and with him working all weekend I figured a shopping with Mom trip was in order. I needed a new Summer wardrobe so that was my beloved gift from my love :-)

We started out the day at Toast in Birmingham where I had my first ever Monte cristo. I've had a slight obsession with French toast lately so I figured I'd let someone do it right up in the calorie gallery :-)

My Dad took Jake go-carting a couple places and they had a nice guy bonding time. I have yet to see a photo but I know they had a great time!

I thought that a few of my friends would like to meet up on Saturday but again, since it was mothers day weekend, they had plans with their families. I ended up going out Sunday night with my old pals from TGIFridays, where I used to work 13 years ago :-)   I am so happy I'm so personable and in the age of social media where I can keep in contact with people all over! When I met up with my friends, its like the conversation never stopped! I believe that is what you call awesome! There's the usual questions: so where do you live? Where does your husband work? How old is Jake? Is he in school? Are you looking forward to working again? I love all your recipes! So I am happy to have a following all over :-)  it truly makes me feel connected to everybody. People can hate on social media all they want and claim it takes up too much valuable time, but guess what? It makes me happy, when I see all I have done with Jake, for myself, and our families' adventures throughout each state, it makes me feel "normal" because clearly our lifestyle is anything but; its our life!

Being an at home Mom can be incredibly lonely, but I simply cannot see it any other way. It has to be difficult for working parents, I see it every day through my husband's eyes/texts!

Wow, how did my birthday weekend a month ago evolve into this?! Anyways, I'm 31 now and welcome whatever comes my way as long as I have to friend's, near and far, to support us.

Happy 31

Preschool Mothers Day Tea

Jakes school invited the Moms to a Mothers Day Tea the who me class had prepared. They made special gifts for us and it was just adorable. They sang 5 songs, guided by their teacher and there were many 'oohs n awwws'  like a baby shower. Tell me if the video works....

14th Annual Family Derby Party

This years weather has been downright miserable and sure has made many events rained out. Last Derby I met 'the hoodies' and have gotten together ever other month for different parties and holidays. It probably rained ever hour on the hour for a good 20 minutes. There were tents and a garage for shelter. The kids jumped on the trampoline, played in the basement, and we all had a blast as usual! Everyone kept asking where Kevin was and ugh that is so frustrating! He has been getting extra screwed lately and here's the deal: if he's not here, he's at work. Why ask when you know what the answer is. Yea, it sucks, quit reminding me. I'm at a party to escape that reality! End rant.

There were different pools for betting on horses. I put in $5 for the drawing and actually won $95 on Orb! Preeeetty exciting! After the race was over, it began raining :-)

Kevin showed up around midnight, when most everyone was gone, so we retrieved Jake who was sleeping in the basement and went home. I had fun, Jake had fun, and the next day the 'big boys' came over to play with Jake. It was great!
