Writing time

You know, out of all the things I've done with Jake, including places I've taken him, I've sort of neglected to give him crayons, pencils, etc. Its kind of a foreign thing for him to actually sit and draw. So since school has started and he comes home with all these arts and crafts, I've made a valiant effort to set aside time so he gets more acquainted to it. Fundamentals of learning, one would say :-). I have him write his name at least 5 times, and whatever the letter of the week is, we write the capital and lowercase several times. Since this is his phase of all things 'Transformers" I figured he would want to know how to spell his obsessions.(its also a way for him to actually DO this writing act)

We've been at home for days so I brought out the construction paper and crayons and we worked on this today. I think its pretty good, but I'm his Mom. He didn't need the cheat sheet or have to run in his room to glance at the letters on the wall, so I suppose that means he's concentrating and actually learning something at school and home.  He needs a little more work on the small 'i' so they don't look like people, though. Oh well, to think that last year this time he had no idea what the alphabet was, he's come a long way!

Tomato and feta baked eggs

In an effort to eat breakfast and to like it more, I've reorganized my pinterest boards to what course of meal it is. I believe 70% of them are from the blogger 'Kevin's cooking in the closet'. Obviously, it isn't my Kevin, but he has some awesome, easy, recipes. Check him out! Basically for this you sautee an onion, add 2 Roma tomatoes chopped, and Italian seasoning. This makes a sauce as the tomatoes cook for 5 minutes. Remove from heat then stir in 1/2 cup details cheese. Place this mixture in a small ramekin, then take a spoon and create an indention to hold a single egg. Bake at 425 until egg just sets. Jake said it tastes like lasagna and I agree, especially without all the work!

Door duty

Jake volunteered to be a door opener for preschool during drop off hours. He was very excited to say 'good morning' to all the classmates and other attendees. We were a few minutes early so we got to talk with his teacher one-on-one about our holiday and how he is doing in school. Happy to report he's doing very well and is always well behaved and is helpful toward others. Love those moments! She also said he looks like he's grown 3 inches over the break! 

I was sort of surprised too that there were some kids who had trouble exiting their car and were throwing fits of not wanting to to go to school. I don't know, maybe the break was too long or something? Oh well, Jake does well and is always eager to leave me for his friends. I get it, he's growing up....

lilmansworld part deux

You've arrived! I suppose 4 years and boat loads of pictures out dates me in terms of Google these days. It is amazing how many things have changed since then, for both us and technology! After reading over a few older blogs, the main focus was of Jake, and I've decided to make it a family one. Blogging on a tablet is definitely different and has thwarted me from updating. That and living in limbo is frustrating so I wasn't too keen on being a Debbie Downer. I will update you more on that, once I get caught up from the Fall and Holiday Season. I'd say the majority of you already know via text messages, but as the blog title dictates, The Arens were there!
